Tullibody History Group was formed in February 2001, by a group of interested people who were concerned about the lack of recording of our local history and heritage.
The objectives of the group are:
- To research and record the history of Tullibody
- To promote and encourage meetings, talks, film shows and other similar events to assist the furtherance of this knowledge.
- To preserve or assist in preserving buildings, monuments or articles of any kind which are of historic connection to Tullibody.
We started with monthly illustrated talks and in the first year amassed a wealth of photographic and archive material.
This led to the staging of our first exhibition in the Abercromby Arms Hotel in March 2002.
Such was the interest in the exhibition that it fired our enthusiasm to find a permanent home for the archive material. We obtained the tenancy of the former Tullibody Bowling Club in August 2003.
After several months spent upgrading and converting the building, Tullibody Heritage Centre was opened by the local MSP George Reid.
The Tullibody History Group still meets on the last Thursday of each month in the Heritage Centre, Abercromby Place at 7.30pm from September to June.
Visitors are very welcome to attend the talks for a nominal sum.
Current membership is £6.00 per annum for adults and I.00 for children under 16.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
